The Role
As we focus on providing equitable solutions to historically under-resourced communities of learners and teachers, we’re guided by our Engineering Principles. Within the Product team, your projects may include:
- Integrating cutting-edge learning science into our product to empower learners and teachers to address learning gaps dynamically.
- Collaborating with public school districts with high percentages of Free and Reduced-Price Lunch students to expand our teacher and learner tools to millions of underserved learners.
- Developing tools for teachers to utilize Khan Academy strategically in their classrooms.
With the recent introduction of Khanmigo and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, this role will contribute to leveraging AI to enhance product capabilities where applicable.
As a remote-first organization, we prioritize leveraging technology best suited to solve problems for our learners. Presently, our tech stack includes Go, GraphQL, JavaScript, React & React Native, Redux, and we’re open to adopting new technologies like LLMs when they align with our goals. Your Contributions
- 8+ years of experience building top-tier product experiences for interactive web applications, including developing and maintaining scalable backend services and complex frontend user interfaces.
- Strong proficiency in technical project management, often taking the lead on projects.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain complex software, contributing clean, maintainable code to solve challenging problems and drive the team and mission forward.
- Excellent communication skills, with a willingness to give and receive regular feedback.
- Driven by Khan Academy’s mission to provide free, world-class education to all.
- Proven cross-cultural competency, displaying self-awareness, empathy, and inclusive behaviors to foster belonging throughout the organization.
- Passionate about global education and dedicated to making learning a joyful experience.
- Experience with Generative AI / LLMs to develop products is advantageous but not required.

At Khan Academy, we prioritize fair and equitable compensation, employee well-being, and our community. Our Total Rewards package includes competitive base salaries, extensive benefits, and perks to support physical, mental, and financial well-being.
The target salary range for this position (LEC IC 1.5) is $165,500 – $201,250 USD / 206,875 – 251,562 CAD. This range is indicative, and actual salary offered will depend on internal pay equity, your relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data. Outstanding performers may earn well beyond this range, and additional incentives are provided as part of the total rewards package.
